After agriculture, it is the only industry to have created jobs for both skilled and unskilled labor. The textile industry continues to be the second-largest employment generating sector in India. It offers direct employment to over 35 million population in the country. Clothing industry or garment industry summarizes the types of trade and industry alongwith the production and life chain of clothing and garments, starting with the textile industry (producers of cotton, wool, fur, and synthetic fiber) via fashion industry to fashion retailers up to trade with second-hand clothes and textile recycling.

Duration 2½-4 years
Eligibility XII pass in any stream– Arts/Commerce/Science/Home Science/ Minimum Competency Vocational Course (MCVC) including National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), or A Pass in the Plus two examination or equivalent of any recognized board in India with 60% marks (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology) for general category, 55% marks for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and 50% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

Salary

Like in any other field the remuneration in this field depends on qualification, experience, and area in which one works. One could get an initial pay of ₹12,000 to ₹30,000 per month. The salary increases with experience and skills.
